The evolution of widescreen projection is here with the release of the WD500U-ST short-throw projector from Mitsubishi Electric. With a native WXGA (1280 x 800 pixel) resolution, the WD500U-ST is capable of projecting a 1.5 m diagonal image just 70 cm away from the screen. This handy feature makes the projector ideal for use in ceiling installations, as the presenter can stand between the projector and the screen without worrying about their shadow being cast over the presentation. It can also be attached to a telescopic arm above a whiteboard, giving teachers the ability to creative impressive multimedia tutorials.
Thanks to a combination of innovative features; the WD500U-ST delivers astonishingly rich, vibrant colours for truly eye-catching presentations. BrilliantColor™ technology developed by Texas Instruments™ provides more accurate colour reproduction by boosting mid-tone colour levels. The six segment colour wheel, which adds yellow and cyan segments to the traditional red, green, blue and white, further broadens the range of colour the projector can generate. Lastly, the unique colour algorithm codes coupled with selective lamp power modulation techniques intelligently process the source data to improve colour intensity and vibrancy across the entire image.
"When giving a presentation, it’s important that the displayed image be large enough to capture the audiences attention. When you’re dealing with a small presentation area however, this can prove difficult. Fortunately, the WD500U-ST’s ultra-short throw lens easily deals with cramped conditions, and is particularly effective in presenting native widescreen source material such as DVDs" said Stuart Baker, Senior Manager of the Visual Information Systems division, Mitsubishi Electric.
“With a high brightness of 2100 ANSI lumens, plus a 2500:1 contrast ratio, you can always be assured of great looking images even in well lit conditions. The centre lens design also means setting up the WD500U-ST is quick and easy, which is perfect when moving the projector between different locations” he said.
A long-life lamp of up to 4,000 hours which can be accessed from the top of the unit, and a filter free design save on time and money while the projector’s light weight of just 3.4kg and time-saving instant shut down function position the WD500U-ST as an incredibly value adding, low maintenance portable system. Enhanced security features such as a reinforced anchor bar and password protection give the user peace of mind when leaving the projector in a permanent installation.
